Web21 mei 2010 · Ken has always made the Howell or R&D in 6 shot cylinders. Now Ken Howell makes a .45Colt 5 shot for the 1860 Army that I know of that also fits the Pietta 1851 Navy in .44 C&B. I like the 45Colt Kirst with a loading gate and the R&D or Howell that you remove like in Pale rider to reload. Web13 jan. 2015 · The cylinder itself is very robust. The firing pin is easily cleaned with soap and water, rinse and spayed with WD-40 to displace the water. Drop of oil of choice and done. Since the conversion, I shoot my Colt 1851, Walker and Dragoon so much more now. Don't tell anybody, but I even shoot light Trail Boss loads with my brass frame 1851.

I chose .45 ACP over .45 Colt (even though I reload for both) because they only recommend .45 Colt black powder/cowboy ballistics (250gr. bullet @ 900 fps) in these units.

Those two companies being: Kirst Konverter (phone number?) and R&D Gun Shop but now called Howell Old West Conversions (608-676-2518). I have both an early R&D cylinder and a Kirst gated cylinder for the Remington 1858, both in .44 / .45 caliber.
